Actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative and granulomatous disease, characterized by abscess formation, tissue fibrosis, and draining sinuses. Actinomycosis of the gallbladder is very rare and has not yet been reported in Korea. We report a case of actinomycosis of the gallbladder in an 80yearold women with history of cholelithiasis for 3 years, preoperatively misidentified as gallbladder cancer. Histologic section of the gallbladder showed Grampositive branching bacilli compatible with actinomyces. After cholecystectomy, the patient received intravenous ampicillin for 4 days, followed by amoxicillin for 4 months thereafter.
